Aaditya Thackeray Says Shinde Government Will Not Last Beyond December 31

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Friday claimed that the forthcoming winter assembly session of the Maharashtra Legislature will be the last session of the Eknath Shinde government as it will not exist after December 31.

“This is an unconstitutional government… It has a few days left, this government will not exist after 31 December, 2023,” Aaditya said.

"The ensuing winter session of Maharashtra legislature (in Nagpur) is going to be the last for this ‘khokhe’ (boxes) government (MahaYuti) and it would be the last for us as opposition (Maha Vikas Aghadi),” he added.

The young leader, who is the son of former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, has been on a tour of coastal Konkan districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, which are considered as traditional strongholds of the Shiv Sena. The tour is seen as an attempt to prepare a groundwork for the 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls.

Aaditya also asserted that the governments at the Centre and Maharashtra would change after the 2024 polls. "There is going to be a change in 2024. in Maharashtra and the Centre," he said.

The statement comes at a time when the disqualification proceedings filed by the factions of Shiv Sena - headed by Shinde and Thackeray - against each other are being heard before Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar. December 31 is the date by which the speaker is expected to deliver his ruling.
