Sharief son-in-law stakes his claim

Mr Yasin, who won the seat in 1999 and 2004, lost to the JDS the following election.

Raichur: The infighting in the Raichur district unit of the Congress has taken a serious turn with former legislator and son -in-law of senior Congress leader, C.K. Jaffer Sharief, writing a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC chief, Dr G. Parameshwar among others, warning against giving the Raichur ticket to the “wrong candidate,” an obvious reference to his rival, Boseraju.

Mr Yasin, who won the seat in 1999 and 2004, lost to the JDS the following election. It was alleged at the time that Mr Boseraju had played a big role in his defeat.

“The Congress party, which believes in social justice has fielded a minority candidate for the Raichur Assembly seat since 1952. But Mr Boseraju is trying hard to deprive me of the ticket these coming polls. The party should do a survey on who is popular in the constituency and then give the ticket,” Mr Yasin said in his letter.
