3 Telugu Desam members suspended

The Opposition members went out of the hall raising slogans against the alleged injustice to them.

Vijayawada: High drama prevailed in the AP Assembly as Deputy Speaker Kona Raghupathy on Tuesday suspended three opposition members — K. Atchennaidu, Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdhary and Nimmala Rama Naidu from the House till the session ends.

The Opposition members were suspended as they were creating pandemonium by raising slogans and trying to reach the Speaker’s podium during Question Hour, demanding clarity from the treasury benches on pension to women from the BC, ST, and SC communities who are above 45 years.

Later, the remaining Opposition members staged a walkout alleging that they were not being given an opportunity to voice their opinion.

The suspended members who were not ready to move out were removed from the Assembly with the help of marshals.

As the Question Hour could not be continued with the continuous sloganeering that had been disrupting the house, legislative affairs minister Buggana Rajendranath moved a motion suspending the three Opposition members.

Mr Rajendranath said the Opposition was disrupting the House when it was discussing important subjects.

Chief Whip G Srikanth Reddy requested the Speaker to suspend the MLAs for five years for their disruptive behaviour. This is the first suspension of legislators in the session.
