Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy quits BJP, likely to join Congress

Nagam Janardhan Reddy was in the Telugu Desam for a long time and had also served as a minister.

HYDERABAD: Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, BJP national executive member and a former minister in the combined state, has decided to quit the BJP. Mr Reddy was closeted with followers of five mandals in the Nagarkurnool constituency on Thursday, after which he made up his mind to resign from the saffron party. Speaking to DC, Mr Reddy said he along with his son Shashidhar Reddy had sent their resignations to party national president Amit Shah. He further said that no decision was made yet on joining another political party.

However, speculations have been doing the rounds for quite some time that the five-time legislator from Nagarkurnool was likely to switch loyalties and join the Co-ngress party. According to sources, a majority of his followers wanted him to embrace the Congress. Nagam Janardhan Reddy was in the Telugu Desam for a long time and had also served as a minister.

However, he quit the party at the height of the Telangana agitation and floated the Telangana Nagara Samiti to espouse the statehood cause. However, it did not make inroads across the state as TRS was already a reckoning force in Telangana. Nagam had joined the BJP in 2013 after merging his party with it. He was immediately inducted into the national executive committee by the party high command.
