Telangana power sector will get Rs 41,000 crore, says Bandaru Dattatreya

Centre willing to give 500 MW additional solar power to TS.

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya on Friday said the Central government was committed to extending Rs 41,000 crore financial support in the form of loans and through other schemes for development of the power sector in TS. Of the Rs 41,000 crore commitment, the Centre has already extended Rs 11,300 crore he said.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union power minister Piyush Goyal is working towards providing 24x7 electricity to every village in the country particularly TS,” Mr Dattatreya said, after a review meeting with officials of various public sector units related to power sector here.

Mr Dattatreya made it clear that the Modi government will especially focus on the newly-formed state and required funds for the power sector development are being provided in a phased manner.

On the ongoing works on 765 KV Wardha-Nizamabad-Hyderabad transmission line being laid by Power Grid Corporation of India which is crucial for supply of power from Chhattisgarh to TS, he said the project would be completed on time. For the benefit of Greater Hyderabad, the line will be laid up to Maheshwaram, he said.

“Towards reducing power wastage, the Centre is supplying LED bulbs. Nearly 4.5 lakh houses in TS will be provided with LED bulbs,” he said.

Providing LED streetlights, efficient agriculture water pump sets were also on the cards. Under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, Rs 15 crore was provided to 15 villages for electricity supply to BPL families.

Mr Dattatreya urged the TS government to join Ujwal Discom Awas Yojana (UDAY) scheme for the benefit of the new state and its power sector.

All arrangements are being made for the foundation laying ceremony of NTPC power plant in Ramagundam, where the PM will attend the function. Power Grid executive director Shekar, REC official Venkatesham and officials of the NTPC were present.
