Modi should settle Mahadayi row: HD Deve Gowda

Mr Modi would not find it difficult to solve the dispute: Gowda

BELAGAVI: Janata Dal (Secular) patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda on Saturday appealed to PM Narendra Modi to play a crucial role in settling the dispute over sharing water of the river Mahadayi.

He told the media here that when three riparian states cannot arrive at a consensus on the issue of sharing water of the river Mahadayi, the PM should take the initiative to resolve the dispute outside a court. He recalled how as PM, similar disputes were resolved with his intervention. With the BJP in power in Maharashtra and Goa as well as in New Delhi, Mr Modi would not find it difficult to solve the dispute, he added.

Questioning the motives behind BJP’s attack on the Congress government, he said including state unit president B S Yeddyurappa all BJP leaders had remained silent so far without uttering a word against the government or launching agitations. Only when party president Amit Shah gave a call that they woke up suddenly, he said adding that one had to wait and see how the BJP would take its agitation against the Congress government forward.
