Transgender persons flock to Congress roadshow in hope for better future

Kataram(Bhupalapalli): Groups of transgender persons flocked to the Congress’ Vijayabheri bus yatra at Kataram of Bhupalapalli on Thursday, to put forth their demands to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Transgender woman W. Shanwiatha of Kataram Mandal told Deccan Chronicle that her group was overwhelmed by Rahul Gandhi’s speech. She said that the BRS government did not do much for their welfare, despite giving multiple representations to MLAs and ministers.

Another transgender woman, K. Yashoda, alias Fruity, requested Rahul Gandhi to take measures for their community’s welfare, especially providing security. Yashoda called for passing legislation to grant them rights on par with other genders.

“It would be good if governments give Rs10,000 as a pension, considering us a special category, besides house sites and jobs, since many completed post-graduation,” said Yashoda.

She hailed the State Election Commission for electing a transgender person, Laila, as its ambassador for the ongoing elections.
