MH Ambarish incommunicado: Keeps Congress guessing

Surveys had reportedly revealed that it would be tough for Mr Ambarish to win the election.

Bengaluru: Mandya Congress MLA and former minister M.H. Ambarish's indecision on contesting from Mandya City constituency in the May 12 Assembly polls has left Congress leaders jittery.

Despite calls from KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar to collect the 'B' form to contest the election, the cine actor turned politician has not gone to collect it so far. He had not filed the application seeking a ticket to contest the polls despite instructions from party bosses and has been elusive and not ready to meet anyone.

Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George personally went to his house to convince him to collect the 'B' form but the latter reportedly did not show any interest. He is said to be miffed with state Congress leaders for not considering the names of his followers for two to three Assembly seats in Mandya district.

Meanwhile, Congress party sources told this paper that Mr Ambarish had sought the party's full support if he was to enter the fray as he reportedly lacks the confidence to win the election - one reason why he has been reluctant to collect the 'B' form. Surveys had reportedly revealed that it would be tough for Mr Ambarish to win the election.

On Wednesday morning, a group of his supporters led by Amaravathi Chandrashekar met him and requested him to file his nomination papers in a day or two and start the campaign. The actor reportedly told them he would do it but did not show any interest to contest, said sources.

It is said that Mr Ravi Ganig, a Congress ticket aspirant for Mandya City, has requested party leaders to give him the ticket to contest.
