Chennai: The DMK has submitted its reply to the Election Commission notices seeking explanation for funding promises of freebies announced in its election manifesto for Assembly elections.
Party leaders said they had mentioned only two freebies in their manifesto and given suitable reply to them. One of the promises was a reaction to a demand from the public and the party manifesto had only said it would consider the demand, DMK organising secretary T.K.S. Elangovan said.
For the other promise, the DMK had only promised to reduce the expenses for one scheme and divert it to another scheme, he said and added that both the promises are self-explanatory as the manifesto had explained them clearly.
Election Commission had sought explanation from both the AIADMK and DMK on how they would fund the freebies promised in their election manifestos.
