Jagan a social reformer: Krishnaiah

Several Vizag BC leaders give a miss to 'BC Garjana'

VISAKHAPATNAM: Rajya Sabha member and BC leader R. Krishnaiah showered praises on Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy calling him a social reformer. He was addressing the BC Garjana held on the beach road in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, which was attended by YSRC regional coordinator Y.V. Subba Reddy, minister for information and public relations Ch. Venugopala Krishna and MLC Varudu Kalyani.

However, top BC leaders of Visakhapatnam including Visakhapatnam East coordinator Akkaramani Vijayanirmala, MLC Vamsi Krishna Yadav, MLAs Tippala Nagi Reddy and Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar gave a miss to the meeting.

Speaking as the chief guest, Krishnaiah said Jagan Mohan Reddy had brought revolutionary changes including establishing caste-wise corporations and a permanent BC Commission in the state during his four-year rule, making it a pro-BC government. “Many students were readmitted to schools thanks to the schemes like Amma Vodi, Jagananna Divena. His name will be etched in history,” Krishnaiah said, thanking Jagan for sending him to Rajya Sabha to voice the problems of BCs.

Minister Gopalakrishna said previously it was Dr Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy and now, it is Jagan Mohan Reddy who can be credited for eradicating poverty among BCs who suffered for three decades.

He said AP was the first in the country to conduct a comprehensive survey of BCs by appointing five IAS officers.

Y.V. Subba Reddy said the BC students were unable to pursue engineering education during the regime of Chandrababu Naidu. But now the Jagan government launched several schemes for them. “The kind of attention the BCs are getting and their bettered living standards in AP is being observed by other states,” Subba Reddy said, adding, BCs were not backward but the backbone of the government.

Earlier in the morning, a huge rally was taken out on the beach road.
