Kerala: Congress panels to finalise reports by July 5

The KPCC and lower level revamping would depend on the reports

Thiruvananthapuram: The four regional panels the Congress party formed to study reasons for the poll debacle will submit their reports by July 5. KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran has asked them to prepare a neutral report without any vested interests. The KPCC and lower level party revamping would depend on the reports.

At the first sitting of the panels at the KPCC office here, Mr Sudheeran warned that the leaders found guilty would face the music unlike the reports of Thennala Balakrishna Pillai (2009 Lok Sabha), and Vakkom Purushothaman (2011 Assembly elections) which are yet to see the light of the day.

“Stringent action would be taken against leaders who spoiled chances of Congress, depending on the reports,” he said. KPCC general secretaries V. A. Narayanan (Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad) and Sajeev Joseph (Palakkad, Kozhikode and Malappuram), vice-president Bharathipuram Sasi (Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur) and treasurer Johnson Abraham (Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta) head these fact-finding teams.

They have received a set of 19 guidelines to prepare a list of local leaders to be consulted and to meet the candidates, election committee heads and those who have raised the allegations. "We would be visiting 12 districts except Kottayam and Idukki where there were no serious charges,” said a KPCC general secretary. They will evaluate the functioning of the organisation as well as the efficiency of local leaders. They will also probe if the jumbo committees at the district level had played the spoilsport.
