Centre yet to reimburse : Polavaram

The CM directed the officials to make efforts for clearance of designs for speedy completion.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed irrigation officials to make efforts to get the reimbursement of Rs 3,161.65 crore from the Central government towards the Polavaram project expenditure. The total expenditure incurred up to November 9 stands at Rs 15,024.78 crore and expenditure incurred after declaration as a national project is '9,888.91 crore. The amount reimbursed to the AP government so far by the Polavaram Project Authority stands at Rs 6,727.26 crore.

Conducting the 81st virtual review of the progress of the Polavaram project, the CM said officials should speed up the works as the project had reached the visible development stage.

Principal secretary of the Water Resources department, Sasibushan Kumar, stated that 60.66 per cent of project works had been completed so far, including 48.85 per cent head works, 47.87 per cent main dam package, 59.34 per cent connectivity packages, 90 per cent right main canal and 65.30 per cent left main canal works.

The officials informed the CM that 11 designs were pending with the Central Water Commission, including 4 spillways and spill channels, 4 ECRF and earth dams and 3 designs of gates. The CM directed the officials to make efforts for clearance of designs for speedy completion.
