President to host Liberation Day event in New Delhi

Kishan says KCR demanded fete when he was in Opposition

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Liberation Day celebration will be held for the first time at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on September 17 with President Droupadi Murmu in attendance, Union minister and state BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said on Saturday.

The Centre has been organising the official Telangana Liberation Day celebration since last year, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah unfurling the National Flag.

Kishan Reddy told reporters that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, who while in the Opposition had demanded that the day be celebrated officially but did nothing since coming to power, must attend the celebration at Parade. “If he is sincere, he should join, this is an apolitical event,” Kishan Reddy said.

The BRS and Congress have tied up the AIMIM, which is a descendent of the Razakars who wrought havoc on Telangana and its people before Hyderabad was liberated from the rule of the Nizams, Kishan Reddy alleged.

“These parties are doing everything they can to undermine the celebrations in the city. The Congress has planned a party event and a public meeting while the Chief Minister too has planned a meeting. These two parties are scared of the AIMIM, are prostrating before it, and are dancing to the tunes of the Razakar-descendent party,” he said.

Elsewhere, Kishan Reddy slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for the latter’s comments about India when the world is looking at India at the ongoing G20 summit in New Delhi.

In a statement, Kishan Reddy said “Rahul’s resentment for Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed into hatred for India. The entire world has its eyes on India with the leaders of the most powerful nations in our country. We are being praised for hosting the G20 summit in the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ by admitting the 55-member African Union in the inaugural session.”

He said India’s “deft diplomacy and Modi’s goodwill has ensured a full consensus with all G20 members endorsing the ‘G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration’. However, Rahul Gandhi sitting in a foreign country is abusing India and casting aspersions on India, and by extension her people. India does not need such pathetic leaders who run down the country for their own selfish interests.”
