KOZHIKODE: A man from Malappuram--V. Sivadasan -- is the Trinamool Congress candidate fighting the CPM in Jamuria, a Kannur-like CPM citadel in West Bengal. Fondly called by party members as ‘Dasu,’ Sivadasan and family migrated to West Bengal when he was 16. His father was a railway employee and was transferred to Asansol municipality.
There he continued his education after schooling in Kerala. Sivadasan was a KSU member when he started his political life. He became a Youth Congress block member in 1987 and gradually climbed the higher positions in the Congress. He has been with Trinamool Congress since its break with the Indian National Congress in 1998.
He says that he has a Bengali mind. It was in Bengal that he turned out to be a strong politician and leader. His admiration towards the cultural capital of India is deep. An avid supporter of Mamata Banerjee, Sivadasan is one among the 32-member state core committee of TMC. He is inspired by the will and leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
He had contested from Jamuria in 2011 but lost against the CPM, but is confident of victory this time. “I am not a native Bengali, but these people have accepted me as one among them. It shows how effective my work is,” he said.
He has a clear idea about Kerala and its political stand. “Kerala is a developed state compared to Bengal, no matter which party is in power. My dream is to make Bengal also a developed state in the country,” Sivadasan added in the midst of his busy campaign in Jamuria.
