Politics of vengeance, say BRS leaders on ED\'s summons to Kavitha

HYDERABAD: In an overwhelming show of solidarity for BRS MLC and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's daughter Kavitha Kalvakuntla, party leaders, including ministers and MLAs, denounced the ED summons as "politics of conspiracy and vengeance" pursued by the BJP government at the Centre, as well as misuse of central investigation agencies.

Reacting sharply to the ED summons issued to Kavitha asking her to appear before it on March 9, the BRS leaders accused the BJP government of misusing central investigation agencies such as the CBI, ED, and I-T to target the Opposition parties and their leaders for criticising the BJP's wrongdoings. While BRS ministers and MLAs have criticised the BJP government on the Kavitha issue, there has been no response so far from the party's top leadership, including Chandrashekar Rao, BRS working president and minister K.T.Rama Rao, and finance minister T.Harish Rao. Although both the CM and Rama Rao denounced Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia's arrest, they chose to remain silent on the ED's summons to Kavitha.

On Wednesday, energy minister G.Jagadish Reddy termed the ED's summons to Kavitha as “height of misuse of the central agencies” against opposition parties by BJP government at the Centre. "BRS and AAP are strongly raising their voice against the misrule of the BJP government at the Centre. Unable to digest this, the Modi government has framed liquor case to trouble both the parties. The central agencies are issuing notices to Kavitha under pressure from the BJP government at the Centre. But the BJP leaders should realise that cases and jails are not new to the BRS leaders. Our leaders faced several cases and went to jails during the Telangana agitation in order to achieve separate statehood. In the similar manner, we will face these false cases fabricated by the central agencies on the directions of the BJP government," Jagadish Reddy said.

Ministers Allola Indrakaran Reddy, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Satyavathy Rathod were among those who lashed out at the Modi government accusing it of taking “revenge on its political rivals across the nation by using the ED and the CBI as weapons”.

Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran termed the ED's summons to Kavitha “an attack on Telangana”. Alleging a “political conspiracy” to prevent Kavitha’s Bharat Jagruthi and the BRS from expanding their activities across the country, Kranthi said the Centre had turned the central investigating agencies into “puppets” to score political brownie points.
