TD says land mafia activities have soared in Nellore district

Tirupati: Telugu Desam (TD) politburo member and former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has accused agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy and members of YSR Congress (YSRC) of becoming the land mafia of Nellore district.

Addressing a press conference at NTR Bhavan in Nellore city on Friday, he alleged that valuable land parcels within the district are being transferred into the names of YSRC leaders by misusing the AP Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act. Thereby, they are depriving economically disadvantaged sections of their rightful properties.

Chandramohan Reddy charged that recently, minister Govardhan Reddy acquired 57 acres of land in Ramadasu Kandriga at a cost of ₹15 lakh per acre, even though the market value of the land being is ₹1 crore per acre.

He said while there have been proposals to distribute land titles over nearly 5,000 acres across the district to poor beneficiaries, only 3,000 acres are intended for distribution in Sarvepalli constituency alone. The rest of the lands are being swindled by ruling party members, he alleged.

The former minister warned that TD will take legal action if rights of poor and Dalits were violated during the land distribution.
