BJP threatening parties with ED, CBI, IT raids: Stalin

CHENNAI: Accusing the Union government of thrusting its communal agenda and Sanatana Dharma on the people with scant concern for honouring its election promises, Chief Minister M K Stalin said the ruling BJP had now come up with the bogey of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) just with a view to imposing its ideology on the nation and also avenge those political leaders who opposed it.

Leaders of opposition parties who stand up against the BJP were being threatened with raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax (IT) department, Stalin said while speaking at the wedding of his brother-in-law’s son that he presided over at the Anna Arivalayam on Friday.

Wishing the young couple all prosperity and success in their married life, the Chief Minister referred to the present state of the nation and called upon the people to usher in a change at the national level as they had strove for good governance in the State and voted in the DMK, enabling the formation of a ‘Dravidian Model’ government.

While the DMK government was honouring its election promises by implementing one scheme after the other, the BJP government was not only least bothered about honouring its promises ever since it took charge but was only keen on tormenting the people by putting them into trouble with its evil ideas.

Wondering as to why the country needed an UCC when it had its own civil laws and criminal laws, he said the BJP with an avowed anti-people approach was running a dictatorial regime all through these years, which was being watched helplessly by the people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would have blown his top if he had heard all the speeches made in the wedding referring to the family of the groom and its connection with the DMK, Stalin said, recalling Modi describing the DMK as a family party.

Addressing a meeting in Madhya Pradesh, Modi had said that the DMK was run for the benefit of the family members alone, Stalin said, adding that even while travelling to Madhya Pradesh his mind was boggled by the DMK.

Averring that the DMK, started by C N Annadurai and nurtured by M Karunanidhi, was always one family, he said that for Karunanidhi the entire State of Tamil Nadu was his family as much as the State was the DMK party.
