AIADMK not subservient to anyone, says minister

He asked DMK to take note of Parliament proceedings in which the AIADMK MPs were suspended for “taking up Tamil Nadu specific issues.”

Chennai: Milk and Dairy Development Minister K.T. Rajendra Balaji took a dig at the opposition DMK for terming the ruling party as “subservient”. He asked DMK to take note of Parliament proceedings in which the AIADMK MPs were suspended for “taking up Tamil Nadu specific issues.”

“Have you been following the proceedings in the Parliament? Have not our MPs who raised slogans denouncing the Centre, disrupted the Parliament on Tamil Nadu specific issues and got suspended?” he asked.

Speaking to reporters after distributing the ‘cash support’ and Pongal gift hampers to beneficiaries at Rajapalayam on Sunday, he said the DMK was needlessly accusing the AIADMK of being “subservient” to the BJP-led government at the Centre and was speaking derogatorily of his party.

“Why would the BJP suspend our MPs if we are in alliance with that party? We are not subservient to anyone. We are slaves only to love,” he said. The Minister also slammed MDMK chief Vaiko for his black flag protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said such a “demeanour is disgraceful.”

Speaking to reporters after participating in a similar event in Madurai, Cooperation Minister Sellur K Raju said Tiruvarur is no longer the DMK’s fort. It has become the AIADMK’s bastion.

Pongal gift will be given without let up:

Mr. Sellur Raju said ‘cash support’ and Pongal gift hampers would be distributed to all the beneficiaries without any let-up at the Fair Price Shops.

The shops would function even on Pongal day for the benefit of the family ration cardholders. Meanwhile, Mr. Rajendra Balaji said that in line with government policy of striving for a plastic-free Tamil Nadu, the State owned Aavin has proposed to discontinue the use of plastics.
