Congress should allocate 3 MLA tickets in every constituency to BCs: VH

BC leaders to meet Kharge, Revanth to seek more MLA seats

Hyderabad: With the state Assembly elections less than six months away, the Congress' Backward Class (BC) leaders are planning to meet party president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leaders Revanth Reddy, and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to demand a sizeable share of party tickets.

Former state party president V. Hanumantha Rao welcomed the initiative and emphasised the need for allocating three MLA seats to BCs in every parliamentary constituency.

"The party has to allocate three MLA seats to BCs in every parliamentary constituency. Rahul Gandhi's promise to hold a BC Census and more importance to us will be taken to the grassroots. I am going to Mahbubnagar, Suryapet as part of this campaign, and we will hold a BC garjana soon by inviting Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah," Hanumantha Rao said.

Former IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah stressed the importance of providing opportunities to OBCs and urged the Congress high command to consider the support of BC leaders. "No party can afford to disregard the BCs and that has to be taken into account by the Congress also. If BC leaders in other parties can win, why can't they in the Congress? The Congress high command should think over this," he said.

TPCC vice president Cheruku Sudhakar announced plans to meet AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and other party leaders to seek two to three Assembly seats per parliamentary constituency as per the Udaipur declaration.

“We met and discussed about seeking two to three Assembly seats per parliamentary constituency as per the Udaipur declaration. It comes to around 50 seats. We will be happy if it comes to around 40. This is a resolution that has been announced. This is a resolution taken for the country as a whole."

"It is a moral obligation for the Congress. When other sections deserted us, the BCs stood behind the party. As gratitude, they have to do this. During the formation of Telangana state, Sonia Gandhi said it was being done for the majority of BCs, SCs, and STs in the state," he added.
