Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Kodangal of Mahabubnagar district and police imposed Section 144 on Monday and Tuesday to prevent any untoward incidents in the wake of caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao conducting Praja Ashirwada Sabha on Tuesday in the constituency.
TPCC working president and Kodangal Congress candidate A. Revanth Reddy had called for protests and a bandh against Mr Rao’s Tuesday meeting and this has led to tension in the constituency.
The bandh call was a result of police raids on the Congress leader’s houses on Saturday night.
TRS leaders filed a compliant with the TS chief electoral officer Rajat Kumar on this issue and DGP Mahendar Reddy was told to maintain the law and order in the district. Keeping the public meeting in mind police have imposed Section 144 for two days. Mr Kumar said that Election Commission is treating Kodangal as politically sensitive constituency based on the contesting candidates.
Meanwhile, Kodangal returning officer K. Aruna Kumari sent a notice to Mr Revanth Reddy for violation of the moral code of conduct.
Meanwhile, the legal cell of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has approached the Election Commission demanding to disqualify Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) candidate of Kodangal, Mr Narender Reddy, who was allegedly caught with Rs 51 lakh.
The Congress legal cell has also informed that it is not just Rs 51 lakh, but Rs 17.51 crore that was seized from him by the IT officials in the recent raids for elections.
