Cong. using foreign funds to win polls as it failed to fulfil promises: Anurag Thakur

Hyderabad: Union sports and youth affairs minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Saturday accused the Congress of trying to win the polls using foreign money, citing the Mahadev online book betting app episode, adding it had failed to fulfil its promises and was bringing the name ‘Mahadev’ into disrepute.

Addressing media persons here, he said, “Congress is using Chhattisgarh as an ATM (all-time money) for the party. Seizures have also been made in Karnataka from where money is being used to fund Telangana and other elections. Now, the Congress wants to come to power through using money as their guarantees have failed in other states.”

He said that in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress government had not started the old pension scheme, not given the promised five lakh jobs or 300 units of free power, and widowed women are waiting for Rs 1,500 monthly pension, among others.

“There is talk of giving Rs 508 crore to Bhupesh Bhagel in the Mahadev app episode. Is it true that Congress leaders got money through Asim Das? Congress and Rahul Gandhi should answer this. Money is being taken from countries like the UAE also” he said.

Thakur said the Congress had delayed granting statehood to Telangana, which led to the death of youths.

Attacking Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, he said, “KCR can change the name of his party but can’t hide his corruption record.” He claimed that the CM had not given the promised unemployment allowance and did not fill 80,000 vacancies. “KCR sent his daughter Kavitha to indulge in corruption outside the state. Their time will also come.”

He took aim at the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme, terming it a “more than Rs 1 lakh crore scandal.” “Were KCR, its leaders, and officials in need of money so bad that they compromised on the safety of the project meant to supply water to farmers Will KCR remain silent or reply to it? National Dam Safety Authority has confirmed now that the world's biggest blunder has been committed in Kaleshwaram.”

Dismissing claims that the BRS and BJP were in cahoots over lack of action on Kavitha, he said, “We are not saving Kavitha and have absolutely no relation with the BRS. None will be spared. The blunders made with regard to design, safety, and the money trail from the Kaleshwaram project will be probed.”
