Telangana diverting Central funds: BJP

Mr Dattatreya was talking on the sidelines of the BJP executive committee meeting.

Hyderabad: Announcing that the BJP would be the political alternative to the TRS, Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday said the party would improve its tally In the next elections under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah. Mr Dattatreya was talking on the sidelines of the BJP executive committee meeting.

The BJP contested the 2014 general elections in alliance with the TD and in the GHMC polls. In the civic elections at Warangal and Khammam, the two parties went their separate ways after the local BJP units resolved not to work with the TD. The BJP state body met to endorse the decisions taken recently at the national BJP executive meeting held in Delhi.

Outgoing state BJP chief G. Kishan Reddy said at the meet that the TRS government had made it a rule to divert funds allotted by the Centre for specific projects to other departments and was acting against the interests of the common man.

He said funds earmarked for local bodies were being diverted and little or no money was being given to local bodies held by the Opposition parties.

He said the government was “just not taking any steps to prevent migration of agricultural labourers”. He said it was not interested in taking steps to mitigate worst-ever drinking water scarcity nor in spending Central funds for drought relief.

Citing Mission Bhagiratha, Mr Kishan Reddy said it was a money-spinning scheme without implementation. He said the TRS government was good at publicising its schemes but no project worth mention had been launched during its two-year tenure.
