Kerala CPM boss slams PM Modi over his remarks on gold smuggling

Modi's public meetings will not fetch even a single seat in LS polls in Kerala†M V Govindan

Thiruvananthapuram: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi indirectly referred to the role of Kerala chief minsters' office in alleged gold smuggling, the ruling CPM on Thursday hit back saying that who stopped the BJP-led Central Government which controls the investigating agencies from bringing out the truth.

The prime minister, while addressing the Nari Shakthi Modiyude Oppam (Women Power with Modi) event in Thrissur on Wednesday, had stated; "it is not hidden from anyone what kind of gold smuggling activity takes place here and through which offices." He was indirectly referring to the alleged links of some officials of the chief minister’s office with the accused of gold smuggling case that shook the state a couple of years ago.

Reacting to the prime minister’s statement, Kerala CPM state secretary M V Govindan said; "all central investigating agencies function under the Prime Minister and his government. If they were aware of the people and the offices involved in smuggling then why didn’t they catch them? Who prevented them from doing so?

The CPM leader said the central agencies had failed miserably in conducting an effective probe. Instead, these agencies tried to shield some of the accused.

Govindan said the prime minister should look at his constituency in Varanasi where an IIT student was brutally gang raped. The heinous crime was committed by BJP workers who held important positions in the IT Cell. First, the cops refused to register a case or arrest the accused. It was only under pressure from the courts and the agitation of the students that they finally booked the culprits and were forced to arrest them.

Modi’s statements only expose his pathetic situation. “BJP is not going to win even a single seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in Kerala. Voters of Kerala always exercise their franchise with a lot of caution.

Meanwhile, in Delhi opposition leader in Kerala assembly V D Satheeshan also sought to know if the prime minister was aware of everything about the gold smuggling case in Kerala then why did the central agencies close the case. CPM and BJP are hand in glove in Kerala with the objective of Congress mukt Bharat.
