Kishan: Governor\'s speech packed with BRS \'lies\'

Hyderabad: Union minister for tourism G. Kishan Reddy flayed the BRS government for spreading 'lies' through Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan's address to the joint session of the Telangana legislature. The government took credit for works that were in no way linked to it and claimed ownership of the Centre's projects, he said.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao ignored the 'Jai Telangana' slogan, but the Governor raised it in her speech and showed her fondness for the people of the state, Reddy said. The BRS government diverted funds meant to local bodies and this should have been mentioned in the Governor's speech, he said.

The Union minister said that no-confidence motions against BRS municipal chairpersons showed the animosity against the state government, which has thrown the state into a Rs 5 lakh crore debt from the Rs 16 crore surplus budget in 2014.

The state government has highlighted Rythu Bandhu, but did not mention about the withdrawal of subsidies, he said. 'If the state government provides 24 hours quality power then why are farmers staging protests at substations, he wondered.

The Union government was allocating funds for Panchayat Raj institutions and basti dawakhanas but the state government claimed them as their successes, Reddy said. This diversion has been done even in funds allocated for minorities and scholarships for SC students, he said.

The state government should have protected the spirit of federalism by quoting the central funds allocated to it, he said.
