Slew of measures to boost industrial development

Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced a slew of measures to boost industrial development in the state, besides declaring that 64 of the companies who signed MoUs at the Global Investors Meet have started their ventures at an investment of Rs 25,020 crore.

Making an announcement under 110 in the Assembly, she said Rs 100 crore would be allocated for infrastructure development like inner roads, drinking water, storm water drains and streetlights at Sipcot industrial complex at Cheyyar spread over an area of 2,300 acres in Tiruvannamalai district. She also allocated Rs 20 crore to buy modern equipment for Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited.

She announced the setting up of a biotechnology incubation centre at Taramani at an estimation of Rs 20 crore and said Rs 30 crore would be allotted for improving the infrastructure at the Aerospace park at the Vallam-Vadakal Sipcot at Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district.

The Chief Minister said Rs 25 crore would be spent for expanding the electro static precipator chamber and the coal storage godown in the boiler section of Tamil Nadu Papers Limited at Kagithapuram at Karur district. The factory ranks first in the world in using sugarcane molasses to manufacture, she added. The TNPL factory at Mondipatti in Tiruchy producing double-coated paper boards would also be expanded at an estimate of Rs 35 crore.

As a joint venture of Tamil Nadu Cements and Ariyalur district administration, new buildings would be built and equipments would be bought at a cost of Rs 9.5 crore for the Ariyalur district hospital and infrastructure at government and panchayat schools at Ariyalur and surrounding villages would be developed at an estimate of Rs 2.12 crore. Besides, Rs 1.90 crore would be spent for planting saplings, digging ponds and rainwater harvesting in areas surrounding Ariyalur, the Chief Minister said.
