Telugu students in US died of carbon monoxide poisoning

VISHAKHAPATNAM: The two Telugu students — Diinesh of Wanaparthy in Telangana and Nikesh of Palakonda — found dead in their room last Sunday morning in the USA lost their lives as they inhaled excessive carbon monoxide generated by room heaters that they used due to extreme cold conditions.

“The post-mortem report we received from the US said they died due to inhaling carbon monoxide gas,” said Srirambabu Karanam, maternal uncle of Nikesh of Palakonda in Parvathipuram Manyam district.

Talking to this correspondent, Karanam said three students shared a room in Hartford. On Saturday evening. Nikesh and Dinesh went to sleep in the room after their dinner, as it was extremely cold. The other roommate went to a movie and slept in the drawing room upon his return.

The following day he knocked on the door but there was no response. He immediately called the police, who rushed to the house and examined the sleeping students.

They confirmed the students were dead and shifted their bodies to hospital for post-mortem.

The post-mortem report confirmed that the dead was due to inhalation of carbon monoxide. Srirambabu said they are expecting Nikesh’s body to arrive on Friday.

Nikesh’s father Venkataramana is a marginal farmer in Palakonda and mother Adilakshmi, a housewife. Nikesh has a sister who is studying Intermediate.

Nikesh and Dinesh arrived in the US on December 28 last year. They enrolled in Hartford University to pursue computer science courses.
