Willing to deposit Rs 69 crore in court, Pachamuthu informs Madras HC

He is to be subjected to medical examination before being taken by CCB.

Chennai: To secure bail, T.R. Parivender alias Pachamuthu, Chancellor of SRM University, arrested in connection with a case relating to alleged cheating of parents/students of Rs 69 crore for getting medical admission, along with his son, P. Sathyanarayanan, President of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, have informed the Madras high court they are willing to deposit the sum in court.

This was stated in the petitions filed by SRM University and Parivender, which sought to implead themselves in the petitions filed by the victim parents and the HCP filed by R.S. Thangam, mother of film producer Madan, who had gone missing since May 27. The HCP sought to produce Madan before the court and set him at liberty.

When the petitions came up on Tuesday before a Division Bench comprising Justices S. Nagamuthu and V. Bharathidasan, senior counsel ARL. Sundaresan and B. Kumar, appearing for the university and Parivender filed affidavits of Sathyanarayanan and Parivender.

In the affidavits, they submitted that Parivender had nothing to do with the money transaction which the prosecution alleged against Madan.

However, “Without prejudice to the above submissions, with a view to securing his liberty through bail, we are willing to deposit the amount credited to the crime number on the file of CCB. The amount alleged to have been involved in this case of a sum of '69 crore”, they added

The Bench said, “Regarding the submissions made by Parivender and Sathyanarayanan, we cannot express any opinion as the matter is sub-judice before the Magistrate. As per the status report and as per the submissions made by the public prosecutor, two weeks time is required for him to make further progress in the investigation”.
