Telangana receives excess rainfall, Andhra Pradesh not so lucky

September recorded the highest rainfall of the entire season.

Hyderabad: While rains lashed both the Telugu states, Telangana received 29 per cent excess rainfall from the South West monsoon season till date, while AP received 2.9 per cent less.

From June 1 till date, eight districts of TS —Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Medak and Mahbubnagar — received excess rainfall (20 per cent and above) while Adilabad and Khammam received normal rainfall (+19 per cent to -19 per cent), as per the IMD.

Unprecedented rains brought both woes and cheers to farmers and people in general in both the states with almost all irrigation projects, tanks, rivulets and other water bodies being filled the brim, barring a few like Nagarjunasagar.
In its report, the IMD, said that TS received 908.6 mm of rainfall as on date this season as against the normal of 704.7 mm, 29 per cent excess.

North and South Telangana received 29 per cent excess rainfall. The rainfall deviation during June was +50 per cent, July -3 per cent, August -42 per cent and September till date 198 per cent.

“During the week up to September 28, the state received 174.4 mm rainfall as against the normal of 27.5 mm with deviation of 534 per cent,” said the IMD.
Rains in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad, caused havoc besides damage to crops which is still to be estimated. The rains led to breaching of Mid Manair dam and other smaller tanks.

In AP, rainfall was mixed. While Visakhapatnam and Guntur got excess rainfall (20 per cent and above), Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam, Kurnool, Kadapa received normal rainfall (+19 to -19 per cent) and Nellore,

Chittoor and Anantapur received deficit rainfall (-20 per cent to -59 per cent).
The Met office said that overall rainfall from June 1 to September 28 was 527.8 mm as against the normal of 543.6mm, a deviation of -2.9 per cent which is considered normal.

Normal rainfall received in North coastal was +6 per cent, South Coastal -3.5 per cent and Rayalaseema -10 per cent.
