Khammam: Dasarathi statues at Lakaram Park

Lakaram Tank is being developed on the lines of Hyderabad Tank Bund.

Khammam: Lakaram Tank, which is being developed on par with the Hyderabad Tank Bund, will witness the arrival of two prominent guests on Thursday. The statues of literary brothers of Telangana-Dasarathi Krishnamacharya and Dasarathi Rangacharya, (1925-1987) who created awareness with their literature among the masses in the region, will be placed in Lakaram Tank Bund.

Dasarathi Krishnamacharyulu, popularly known as Dasarathi holds the titles Abhyudaya Kavi and Kalaprapurna. He was also recipient of Sahitya Academy Award for his poetic work in the book Timiramto Samaram (fight against Darkness) in 1974. He was also chosen as Asthana Kavi of the Andhra Pradesh government.

“Aaa challani Samudragarbham, Dachina Badabanalamentho? Aaa Nallani Akasamlo Kanarani Bhanuvulendaro?” is a famous song by Dasarathi, which is rendered whenever the literary meet is held.

Dasarathi Rangacharya, a rebel to the core is also known for his literary works. He was a content man and used to say that God has provided him everything in life, and he has no discontent. Rangacharya was candid in his beliefs when he said that his life is more valuable than the money he earned.

It is ironical that the same pen that recorded the strife of Telangana that was immersed in its fight against the draconian rule of the Nizam, including the famous Telangana Armed Struggle, rendered the four Vedas into Telugu single-handed, and also wrote the Mahabharata, Ramayana and Maha Bhagavata in lucid prose.

The statues of the two poets will be installed in the Lakaram Tank Bund on Thursday. The government is also planning to place statues of other prominent personalities of Telangana at a later date.
