Hyderabad: Post office chief admits to exchange of demonetised notes

Hyderabad: CBI sleuths on Monday grilled the accused in the postal cash exchange scam over the fraudulent exchange of demonetised notes with new currency.

The CBI also conducted searches at the residence of Hyderabad postal department head K Sudheer Babu. Sources said that he revealed during interrogation that he had exchanged old currency notes worth Rs 36 lakh with new notes of Rs 2,000 denomination.

The CBI had earlier issued an FIR against Sudheer Babu, Himayatnagar sub-postmaster G Revathi and G. Ravi Teja, office assistant of the senior superintendent office.

Sources said CBI grilled Revathi and Ravi Teja regarding use of '36 lakh in new notes taken by Sudheer Babu. The CBI recorded the statements of witnesses.
On November 24 CBI sleuths and postal vigilance officials based on credible information conducted joint surprise checks across the city including at the Himayatnagar post office.
