Rurban to bridge rural-urban divide

The camp is expected to conclude on May 30.

KOZHIKODE: In a bid to know and experience the rural India, 20 youngsters from across the country gathered in the rural district of Sehore in Madhya Pradesh for a five-day camp. Titled ‘Go Rurban - Disconnect to Connect’ the all-India camps aim at the integration of the urban people with the life of the rural India and vice-versa. By ‘Rurban’, the organisers, the collaboration of Ekta Parishad and ANSH Happiness Society, mean the mixture of rural and urban. A nineteen-year-old boy from Kozhikode, Badir Sadiq, is the youngest to get selected to the camp being held in Bhimkothi Village in Budni Block of Sehore district.

The camp is expected to conclude on May 30. The basic idea behind the youth camp is to explore the shortcomings and highlights of both the urban and rural lifestyles. The village, totally disconnected, without electricity, the internet and water connectivity, offers a different learning experience for them. “It is only through this exploration that we can build a bridge between both the ends and can actually be the combination of both rural and urban. We chose this particular village since it has no connectivity to the outside world, through phone or Internet and the participants can mingle and know the life of the people here,” said Aneesh Thillankeri, one of the organisers. The group is not only having participants from Madhya Pradesh but also youth from Gujarat, Bihar, Kerala, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
