Bengaluru may get its own Disney World

The architecture, design and logo of the much-hyped canteens, aimed at providing subsidised food, are likely to be finalised in a week.

Bengaluru: The government is thinking aloud on setting up an amusement park on the lines of Disney World on the foot of Nandi Hills, said Bengaluru Development Minister K. J. George on Friday.

The barren land around the hills and a portion of it and two other hills flanking it will be used for the park under the public private partnership model. A ropeway will be an added attraction at the park.

It can also house a film city. Further, as there is a proposal to shift the golf course and race course, they too can be accommodated here, he said.

Brainstorming with officials of various civic bodies to put development projects on the fast track, Mr George directed the BBMP to constitute a committee to finalise the logo and design, and start work on Indira Canteens to ensure that they begin serving the public from August 15 as promised by Chief Minister Siddarmaiah.

The architecture, design and logo of the much-hyped canteens, aimed at providing subsidised food, are likely to be finalised in a week.

As many as 670 entries have been received for the logo from a competition among citizens and 175 entries for architecture. The government had announced Rs 1 lakh award for logo and Rs 2 lakh for architecture. The logo and design will be finalised and it will be unique for all canteens.

"Precast fabrication technology will help build the canteens swiftly. An expression of interest will be floated next week. At least 28 agencies, one for each assembly constituency, will be picked up for the canteen. It will have a common kitchen for each of the constituency," he said.

He said that land acquisition issues that are delaying projects will be resolved soon. Officials from South Western Railway (SWR), Bengaluru Division, have urged the government to resolve pending land acquisition with regard to six railway bridges. Both BDA and BBMP have to acquire land in these projects and pay 50% of the cost of the bridges.

The six projects - Byappnahalli, Kaggadasapura, Jakkur, Ramamurthynagar, Horamavu and Kodigehalli - are incomplete because of land acquisition issues.
