Health gets boost in Wayanad budget

A sum of Rs 1.5 crore was earmarked for installing a mammography unit in the district.

Kalpetta: The Wayanad district hospital will be upgraded as a superspecialty one. A proposal in this regard was made in the Wayanad district panchayat budget for 2017-18 presented by vice- president P.K Asmath on Tuesday. The budget with an income of Rs 111.4 crore, expenditure of Rs 101.9 crore and surplus of Rs 9.5 crore has given priority to the health sector through a number of projects. A sum of Rs 1.5 crore was earmarked for installing a mammography unit in the district.

The other projects include district hospital ICU-casualty renovation, computerisation, bio-gas plant construction, surgical equipment purchase, dialysis sub-centre at Panamaram community health centre and nutritious food distribution of sickle cell anaemia patients. Rs 10 lakh has been allotted for 'Thooval Sparsham' project to ensure normal delivery and treatment for scheduled caste. To convert Wayanad into a child-friendly district, 'Amma Manassu' project has been proposed to strengthen the jagratha samithi. Digital classrooms, ‘Mission Plus One’ to ensure all SSLC-passed students to join higher secondary courses, renovation of high school/higher secondary schools etc are some of the main proposals for the education sector.
