Youth pedals to spread word on environmental protection

Nizamabad: To create awareness among people on the protection of the environment, a youngster from Uttar Pradesh has taken up the pan-India cycle yatra.

Robin Singh, hailing from Itarsi, has reached Nizamabad on Thursday. He began his marathon for a cause from Kanya Kumari on October 6, 2022, and so far pedalled for 26,000 kilometres by covering Tamil Nadu, Kerala,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Goa.

Speaking to the reporters, Robin Singh said that he had been creating awareness among youths and students about environmental protection.

Indiscriminate usage of chemical fertilisers had been affecting the soil, resulting in pollution of air, water and food, he noted. The usage of plastic should be completely banned to avoid environmental crisis and farmers need to be encouraged towards organic farming using bio-fertilisers, he said.

Robin Singh highlighted the ill effects of single-use plastic bottles drinking water. Recalling the shortage of oxygen during the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, he suggested that people plant saplings. Everyone should be responsible for preserving the environment for future generations, said the cyclist whose journey will conclude in Bhopal after covering the remaining states.
