New rail over bridge at Kozhikode railway station

The new ROB is expected to be useful to reach the platforms 2, 3 and 4 without entering the first platform.

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode, the single A plus category railway station under Palakkad division, is going to have another rail-over-bridge (ROB). The ROB will start from the parking lot adjacent to the main entrance and connect to the existing ROB in the second platform thereby linking to the third and fourth platform. The new ROB is expected to be useful to reach the platforms 2, 3 and 4 without entering the first platform.

“Regular commuters could park their vehicles and go to various platforms without entering through the main entrance. This will ease the congestion at the main entrance,” said Kozhikode railway chief commercial inspector Shyam Sasidharan. Currently, there is only one ROB at the Kannur side linking all platforms. Another one connects platform one and two. The construction of the ROB has been started and is expected to be ready within two months.

“It is a long demand to provide a way to other platforms from outside the main entrance building as it would be beneficial to season-ticket travellers,” says Sathyanathan A., a regular commuter and teacher in Thalassery. Those who park vehicles near to the main entrance has to enter the main building to reach the other platforms as authorities closed the entry to escalator from the pre-paid auto counter side due to a security issue.
