Navaneetha Rao, Ex-OU VC, dies of cardiac arrest

HYDERABAD: Prof. T. Navaneetha Rao, Vice Chancellor of Osmania University from 1985 to 1991, died on Saturday morning following a cardiac arrest. He was 95.

Students, colleagues and professors went to his home in Jubilee Hills to pay their respects.

OU VC Prof. D. Ravinder recalled that Prof. Rao had saved the academic year of 1988, after facing many challenges.

Many took to Twitter to state that Prof. Rao was a dynamic administrator with professional values, and dignity and was a man of 'impeccable character.'

BRS leader Dasoju Sravan wrote about Prof. Rao's commitment and conviction towards the education and empowerment of students. "He not only built the pride of Osmania University, but also the careers of several underprivileged students.”

“He was determined to never entertain political interference in the university administration. He truly maintained the autonomy of OU,” said Dr Sravan who was associated with Prof. Rao as a student leader and assistant professor at IPE.
