VS Achuthanandan demands action against unruly lawyers

A group of lawyers even had the audacity to assault women journalists on Vanchiyoor court premises.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V. S. Achuthanandn has urged chief justice Mohan Shantanagoudar to take action against the “handful” of unruly advocates who were preventing media from covering court proceedings. In a letter, he urged the Chief Justice to intiate immediate action and not wait for the Supreme Court verdict on the issue.

Achuthanandan pointed out that despite several negotiations held at different levels, a section of lawyers were resorting to violence to chase away journalists from court premises. A group of lawyers even had the audacity to assault women journalists on Vanchiyoor court premises. He said a false case was registered against the women journalists charging them of issuing life threat to lawyers. The current situation reminds one of Emergency days when freedom of press was totally curbed. Achuthanandan requested the Chief Justice to take action without further delay.
