Sahara group investors stage protest, demand return of money

HYDERABAD: Several people who were taken for a ride after investing their savings in the Sahara group, especially senior citizens, staged a protest in front of the Sahara office, which is opposite the state secretariat, here on Monday. They deposited their entire earnings after being assured of handsome returns, many of them pointed out.

Incidentally, they were approached by the company’s commission agents. The situation is such that neither the investors nor agents have been paid since 2018.

Tagor Prabhu, a victim, said “It has been more than 10 years since I deposited amounts here. I was convinced by the agents that I would have good returns in my retired life. I have to get Rs lakh from 2018 onwards.”

T. Ramesh, a tailor from Shivarampally, said “I have been depositing regularly for several years. When I wanted to take back my savings, they kept postponing the settlement.”

The plight of the agents, who were also among the protestors, was no different. The office is being protected by police officials, as a precautionary measure against untoward incidents.

Agents Ravi and Ch. Malesham said that they work on commission basis and they have not been paid anything in the last four to five years.
