Currency ban ill-timed, says H D Deve Gowda

He also added that the government had failed to realise the actual damage of the move which would affect the GDP growth of the country.

MALAPPURAM: The currency ban was an ill-timed wrong decision implemented without much homework, said former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda here on Thursday. “The move would have been more beneficial if it was applied in a right manner realising the ground realities in the country. The Prime minister’s hasty decision has affected farmers and the poor, and they are on the brink of suicide in many parts of the country,” he said, speaking at the "harmony conference" organised by the Ma’din Academy here as part of its 20th-anniversary celebrations.

He also added that the government had failed to realise the actual damage of the move which would affect the GDP growth of the country. He also inaugurated the Lifelong Learning Centre of the Academy which provides free skill development courses for all irrespective of age and educational qualifications. Students will get certificates of the skill development ministry after the completion of the short-term courses, said Muhammed Siraj, the executive officer of Lifelong Learning Centre.
