Hyderabad: Residents plant trees to keep park free of parked vehicles

Recently, tired of government apathy, Marredpally residents repaired a stretch of damaged road on their own.

Hyderabad: Residents of Seshachalam Colony at West Marredpally in Ward 5 of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) protested that their colony’s vacant land, which is meant to be park, is being used as a parking lot. So they have taken an initiative and planted trees in that space, in order to prevent parking.

N. Ramesh, a resident of Seshachalam Colony said, “Heavy vehicles are being parked in the park area, obstructing the children from playing freely in the space. We also don’t have any park-related infrastructure in the place. Besides that, these vehicles are consuming the space. So we came with this idea of planting trees, so that the misuse will be reduced.”

Former vice-president the SCB, V. Jai Prakash who participated in the event said, “Planting trees and placing placards of ‘No Parking’ is one way through which we can prevent people from parking here.”

As many 50 colony members assembled together for this initiative, some of the colony issues such as irresponsible garbage dumping and water problems were also discussed. It was decided that they would approach the SCB authorities on some issues.
