New mayor Thottathil Raveendran has no time for Facebook

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the Mayor said that he had deliberately not started the Facebook page.

KOZHIKODE: At a time when even grama panchayat presidents and heads of states have started using Facebook as a tool to interact with people and also to inform them about new projects and policies, Kozhikode Municipal Corporation Mayor Thottathil Raveendran finds it as a time consuming thing.

Mr Raveendran, who appears unconcerned about the Mayor having an online presence, says that he has no immediate plans to restart the Mayor’s Facebook page. The Facebook page ‘Our Dream City –Kozhikode Mayor’ started by VKC Mammed Koya during his tenure was recently converted it into the MLA’s official FB page after his election victory from Beypore.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the Mayor said that he had deliberately not started the Facebook page. “I don’t even have time to sit in the office. So much is the work load and that is why I have decided not to launch one. VKC has his own assistants to do that, unfortunately I don’t have any,” said Mr Raveendran.

“If I started, then I have to give time for that too and also regularly update it. If I cannot, then that would be the next issue,” he added. The Mayor said that in future he would think of such interactive methods. The Mayor’s Facebook page ‘Our Dream City- Kozhikode Mayor’ grabbed attention from thousands of online users and was used for propagating the Corporation’s many projects including waste management programme.

VKC himself featured in a video posted on the Facebook page explaining the working of the new waste management project of the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation, probably the first time by any Mayor in the state.
