Forest task force arrests three for killing a tiger

ADILABAD: Bellampalli forest task force officials on Saturday arrested three persons accused of allegedly electrocuting a tiger and burying its carcass after removing nails at Rangampet village in Bellampalli mandal, Mancherial district.

The tiger reportedly came into contact with live electric wires that were put up to protect the standing crops from wild boars by local villagers. The task force team conducted a raid on houses in Rangampet and found some body parts of the tiger.

Mancherial DFO Shiv Ashish Singh said that they had booked the accused under the Wild Life Protection Act.

Forest officials claimed that they seized one nail of a tiger. It is suspected that the villagers killed the tiger in 2018. The officials also unearthed the skeleton of the tiger that was buried.

Giving details about the incident, Ashish Singh said that they got information about the killing of a tiger and sale of its body parts by some locals. He said the accused were poachers. However, the officials did not get the tiger's skin and other parts in the raid.

The accused were identified as Balachander, K. Anji and Laxmaiah of Rangapet in Bellampalli mandal.
