Thiruvananthapuram corporation meet agenda devoid of details

The Opposition said as people's representatives they had the right to know the details.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Some of the most important matters discussed at Tuesday’s council meeting were not part of the agenda document distributed. The Opposition raised their objection, as some standing committee chairpersons read out the agenda, but skipped details. For example, when development standing committee's Vanchiyoor P. Babu shared about a scheme in which fishing community will be able to buy land with government fund, he did not say who will be eligible. It was only after Thrikkannapuram councillor K. Anilkumar (BJP) sought details, Mr Babu said everyone in the community would qualify for an amount of Rs 6 lakh to buy three cents. When DC asked him, as to why the agenda was not printed, Mr Babu said many of those decisions were taken just a day before.

“The district planning committee has convened a meeting on Wednesday. We have been asked to revise various projects which were submitted before but did not get approved. We got to know about this on January 16 and immediately set to working towards the meeting. The standing committee meeting which approved the revisions was held only yesterday,” he told DC. However, in the council, the Opposition said as people’s representatives they had the right to know the details. “It is a shame for the council that a standing committee chairperson chose to read out the agenda from a scrap of paper,” said Mr Anilkumar.
