Telangana government faces medicare challenge

The Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers Association members have asked the government to implement the scheme by November 1, 2016.

Hyderabad: Funding of the Employee Health Insurance Scheme for medical treatment at NABH accredited corporate hospitals is becoming a challenge for the state government.

With private hospitals not accepting the Aarogyasri Healthcare Trust rates, it is becoming difficult for the government to pay for these expenses. There are a total of six lakh employees including pensioners in Telangana.

The Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers Association members have asked the government to implement the scheme by November 1, 2016. The employees are agitated as they have to pay for medical treatment at private hospitals and then the amount is reimbursed by the state government which is usually half of what they have paid.

In discussions, it was proposed that the funds for the scheme be modelled on the basis of private medical insurance schemes where a premium amount would be deducted from the salary of the employees. TNGO’s president, K Ravinder Reddy said, “There was a proposal that the government would create a corpus and a minimal amount would be deducted from our salary so that the expenses can be met. We want the scheme to start. It was announced in November 2014, but has not yet been implmented.”

While deliberations are going on, TNGO’s have said that the government must not miss the November 1st deadline.
