Rename Pakistan as 'Terroristan', says Chetan Bhagat

Bhagat was repsonding to Pakistan Prime Minister's speech at the UNGA, where he dwelt on Kashmir for the larger part.

New Delhi: Peeved over Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s statement at the United Nations General Assembly regarding Kashmir, author Chetan Bhagat took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express his outrage, and suggested that Pakistan be renamed ‘Terroristan’.

The speech, which came in the aftermath of the terrorist attack that killed 18 Army men in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector, dwelled on Kashmir for the larger part and referred to Hizbul Mujahideen chief Burhan Wani as a ‘young leader’. In his speech Sharif also sought that India release Kashmiri political prisoners and later, speaking to reporters in London, said that Uri attack could be a possible repercussion to the Indian ‘atrocities’ in J&K.

He also claimed that India was putting the blame on Pakistan without any evidence.

Taking a harsh view of Sharif’s speech, Bhagat said “I think India and even the world should address Pak by its new name: Terroristan. We keep renaming our cities and roads. Why don't we at least rename Pak to?”

Demanding that special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir be done away with, he further tweeted, “Seeing Kashmir politicians wary of criticising Pak. How is Indian army supposed to guard us then? This Article370 must go. Why attack anyone outside when our own Kashmir politicians (protected by Indian security) are openly sympathetic to Pak.”
