Karnataka PU paper leak: CID hunts for industrialist who bought question papers

Narayan, who bought question papers, is currently on the run.

BENGALURU: CID sleuths probing the second PU question paper leak case are on the hunt for an industrialist, identified as Narayan, who allegedly bought question papers from the accused, Kiran, alias Kumaraswamy.

Narayan’s son and the children of the other accused, Obalaraju and Rudresh, were trained his bungalow bungalow in Sadashivnagar a day before the exams were scheduled to take place. He has now filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court, asking for the case (booked under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act) to be quashed. In his appeal, Narayan said that despite having bought the question paper, he is not a criminal and cannot be charged under the KCOCA because he has no role in running the racket. He is awaiting the court’s decision.

Narayan, who has associations with some political leaders, bought the question paper for his son. When he was being questioned, Kiran told CID sleuths where all the racketeers held classes to prepare the students and also who came forward to buy the papers before the exam.

“Sleuths raided Narayan’s house based on Kiran’s statements. He has been absconding for almost a month now; even his family members don’t seem to be at home,” said a CID official, adding, “We are making efforts to trace him. The accuse also conducted classes at three other houses in the city. The investigating teams have definite information about where they are located and appropriate action will be taken.”

The CID is also contemplating writing to the PU board about withholding the results of those students who were trained with the actual questions before the exam. “As we have the list of students who attended the classes conducted by these racketeers, we are thinking of asking the PU board to hold back their results.” However, no decision has been made in this regard so far.

It is likely that the CID officials will arrest a few more people who had approached the racketeers seeking question papers.
