Hyderabad: Nearly 3,000 people have been displaced in the city due to heavy rains in the last two days and shifted to rehabilitation centres established in government schools, anganwadi centers and other government buildings.
Besides this, nearly 1,000 families from inundated apartments in Kukatpally and surrounding localities took shelter at their relatives due to power cuts and lack of communication networks.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardan Reddy said: “The Telangana Hoteliers’ Association and other NGOs have distributed food packets, drinking water and provided other amenities to the people in the rehabilitation centres. Till the last report, nearly half of the people in the centres had been relocated to their homes after the situation was brought under control.”
Rangareddy District Revenue Officer (DRO) K. Dharma Reddy said nearly 250 people took shelter in rehabilitation centre at Balanagar and 200 more in Malkajgiri.
DRO V. Ashok Kumar said there were no rehabilitation centres in the city. “As per the requirement, we shift public from downpour localities.
“Begumpet and Mayuri Marg are under the jurisdiction of Rangareddy district. Balanagar revenue division officials are taking care of rehabilitation centres,” he said. P. Vijaya Ravindra Babu from Bandari layout said: “Nearly 80 apartments were affected. About 150 families shifted Wednesday’s night for temporary shelter at their relatives’ place.”
