Kerala: Trade unions call for strike support

Joint trade union committee has called for a nationwide strike on September 2.

KOCHI: The joint trade union committee has urged employees and workers from all sectors to make the nationwide strike called on September 2 a big success. Committee leaders R. Chandrasekharan, K.P Rajendran and Elamaram Kareem while addressing a press conference at Ernakulam Press Club on Monday alleged that the Union government has been adopting anti-people policies and act against the interests of the public sector undertakings.

“The ministers’ committee appointed by the Union government to hold discussions with trade union leaders has not conducted any talks on the 12 demands put forward by the unions. The entre held discussions with the BMS representatives who are not part of the strike,” they said. The call for the strike is by all others trade unions and university and college teachers unions, Central government employees unions, who have their own grievances related to implementation of the 7th Pay Commission. All other services except, newspaper, milk, ambulance and fire force will be affected in the strike, said the union leaders.
