Kerala: Germany ready to provide support for more projects

Germany is providing total financial assistance of euro 1.49 billion to India for various projects.

KOCHI: Germany is willing to provide support for the state government in more sectors including transport and urban development, Mr. Martin Ney, German Ambassador to India, said. He was speaking to the media after signing the drawdown agreement with KMRL for the euro 85 million loan for the Water Metro here on Friday.

“We are ready to provide technical assistance for implementing the Water Metro and Smart City programme. Germany is providing euro 320 million to various projects in the country of which euro 85 million is for Water Metro. Apart from urban transport development, Germany is cooperating with India in other sectors including inland waterways development, integrated transport projects, canal restoration, non conventional energy sources, waste treatment and environment-friendly development projects,” said Mr. Ney.

Germany is providing total financial assistance of euro 1.49 billion to India for various projects. The financial cooperation will continue next year for which discussions will start in October. “Germany has 50 years of experience in planning smart cities and we are proud to be in partnership with Kochi which is on its way to being a smart city” he said. Earlier, the agreement detailing the disbursement procedure and schedule of the KfW loan was signed between Abraham Oommen, Director Finance, KMRL and Felix Klauda, the Head of Division, Urban Development and Mobility, KfW.
