Chennai: The State government on Friday informed the Madras high court that it would rectify all the remaining deficiencies in the maintenance of Anna Centenary Library at Kotturpuram by October 31.

When a PIL filed by S.T.Manonmani came up for hearing before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R.Mahadevan, the State government filed its fifth compliance report and sought time till October 31, to rectify all the remaining deficiencies pointed out by the court appointed advocate- commissioners.

Following this, the court posted the matter for November 4 stating that it would order further inspection by the advocate-commissioners after rectification of all deficiencies.

Originally, challenging the November 2, 2011 G.O, which sought to shift the library, Manonmani filed a PIL. In July 2015, she filed another petition, alleging deliberate attempts to stifle the facility. Her senior counsel P. Wilson had submitted that a large number of books were missing and amenities such as elevators and air conditioners were not functioning.

In the last week of July 2015, the Bench deputed a two-member commission comprising advocates P.T. Asha and M. Sundar to inspect the library and file a report. Accordingly, they filed a 160-page report on August 24, 2015 pointing out several deficiencies. Subsequently, they also filed three more additional reports.
